By road

The fastest route (from Bristol and further north/east) is the M5 to Exeter then the dual-carriageway A30 to Okehampton and Launceston. Turn off just after Launceston on the A395 for North Cornwall. Turn off right, 1.5 miles after Hallworthy, on an (unsigned) minor road leading to the A39.

At the A39, turn left then almost immediately right on the road to Tintagel. After two miles, cross over the B3266. Two miles further on, at a minor cross-roads, turn left for Trenale. This hamlet is half a mile from Tintagel. Lilac Cottage faces the 'telephone box triangle' in the centre of the hamlet.

In winter, on clear days, we have had half a dozen sights of the sea after leaving Hallworthy.
