Lilac Cottage is a traditional cottage in the quiet hamlet of Trenale, half a mile from the coastal village of Tintagel in North Cornwall. There is off-road parking in front of the out-house, 30m down the road from the cottage.
The path from the road into the cottage garden has just a single step at the gate. There are no steps at the front door; however the doorway is low and requires anyone over 5ft 7in to stoop on entry/exit.
Lilac Cottage has both bedrooms - and its only bathroom/toilet - upstairs. Anyone using the cottage has to be able to manage the stairs. However, the stairs are not too steep; there is a bannister hand-rail and a turn after three steps.
The floors of the two bedrooms, and of the dining-room/lounge downstairs, are carpeted and level. There are one or two rugs on the carpets.
There is a shallow ramp up into the kitchen, which has a wooden floor. The doorway into the kitchen is low; anyone over 5ft 6in tall will need to stoop.
The kitchen has a standard electric cooker, sink, fridge, freezer and washing machine. There are cupboards both above and below the work-surface.
The bathroom has a lino floor. It has one step, just after the door. There is a short bath and an electric shower, draining into the bath. Guests need to step into the bath to use the shower. There is a standard toilet and washbasin. There is a small television but no acoustic loop to enhance volume. The cottage is heated via night storage heaters, switched at the walls, and by a wood-burning stove with closing glass doors and a single heating-control rod. If used, ash will need to be removed to the dustbin from time to time. The garden furniture outside is on a raised, paved patio. It is about 1 ft 6 in above the path. There are maps and guidance on places to visit within the cottage and a Visitor Centre for further advice down in Tintagel.Return to Home Page
